Corrections

When we get something wrong, we fix it and say so.

Our standard

This site publishes figures that people use to make decisions about real money. A wrong number is a defect, not an embarrassment to manage. When a correction is needed, we fix the page.

How a correction works

We check the report against the named primary source. If the source contradicts what we published, we correct the article. Material corrections to a figure get a dated note on the page itself, so a reader who saw the earlier number can see what changed. Minor fixes, such as typos, are made quietly.

If a figure is outdated rather than wrong, we refresh it and update the last-reviewed date. Annual benefit figures change every year, so an old figure is not always an error, but a stale figure never stays up on purpose.

How to report a problem

Email [email protected]. Include the page address and what looks wrong. If you can, include the source you believe is correct. We read every report and check it against the primary source before changing anything.

What we will not do

We do not remove pages to hide errors. We do not accept payment to remove or soften a correction, and no correction is delayed because of a commercial relationship. There are no affiliate links on the site today.
